The source of streptokinase is bacterium Streptococcus.

This bioreactor molecule is used as a ‘clot buster’ in the body for removing clots from the blood vessels of patients who have undergone myocardial infarction leading to heart attack.

(a) Mycorrhiza is a symbiotic association of a fungus with the roots of higher plants.

The fungus of the association absorbs water and phosphates from the soil and passes it to the plant. Hence it solubilises complex organic matter into simpler substances. It also provides resistance to pathogens increasing the tolerance of the plant to adverse conditions like drought. Hence, the mycorrhizae act as effective biofertilisers.

(b) A genus of fungi that forms a mycorrhizal association with plants is the Glomus species.
