(b) Why is a whiptail lizard referred to as parthenogenetic?

(a) The difference between meiocyte and gamete with respect to chromosome number is that the gamete contains haploid set of chromosomes (n) while the meiocyte contains a diploid set (2n).

(b) Parthenogenetic organisms are produced without fertilization. Whiptail lizards are referred to as parthenogenetic because they develop from unfertilized egg.
