Protein synthesis machinery revolves around RNA but in the course of evolution it was replaced by DNA because: 1.RNA was unstable and more prone to mutations, as it is a single stranded molecule.

2. Chemical modification of RNA led to the evolution of DNA which is a double stranded molecule, having complementary base pairing with hydrogen bonds. This makes it more stable and less prone to mutation.
