Explain the meaning of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Give two examples of STDs each, caused due to (i) bacterial infection and (ir) viral infection. State in brief how the spread of such diseases may be prevented.

Sexually transmitted diseases are the diseases which spreads due to the sexual contact with an already affected individual.


(i) The two sexually transmitted diseases which are caused due to bacterial infection are Gonorrhea and Syphilis.


(ii) The two sexually transmitted diseases which are caused due to viral infection are AIDS and Genital Warts.


Spread of STDs can be prevented by adoption of following measures:


Spreading awareness and educating the public about the disease, its risks in groups where there is a high risk such as blood donors, screening tests etc.
