Why is it necessary to maintain a normal osmotic concentration of the blood?

The kidney while removing wastes (urea) from the blood also regulates its composition, i.e. the percentage of water and salts. This process of keeping a check on the composition is called osmoregulation and it implies the regulation of osmotic pressure of the blood.
