Solve the equation for x.

Given equation,

By Cross multiplying, we get


⇒ 5x = (2x + 3) (4 – 3x)


⇒ 5x = 8x – 6x2 + 12 – 9x


⇒ 5x – 8x + 6x2 – 12 + 9x = 0


⇒ 6x2 + 6x – 12 = 0


Dividing by 6, we get


⇒ x2 + x – 2 = 0


By factorization method,


⇒ x2 + 2x – x – 2 = 0


⇒ x (x + 2) – 1 ( x + 2) = 0


⇒ (x + 2) (x – 1) = 0


⇒ x + 2 = 0 (or) x – 1 = 0


⇒ x = -2 (or) x = 1


Ans. The solution of the given equation is x = -2, 1.
