Q18 of 47 Page 1

Solve the equation For x.

Given equation,

⇒

⇒

By Cross multiplying, we get

⇒ 2(2x + 2) = (5 – x) (3x – 1)

⇒ 4x + 4 = 15x – 5 – 3x2 + x

⇒ 3x2 – 12x + 9 = 0

Dividing by 3, we get

⇒ x2 – 4x + 3 = 0

By factorization method,

⇒ x2 – 3x – x + 3 = 0

⇒ x(x – 3) – 1(x – 3) = 0

⇒ (x – 3) (x – 1) = 0

⇒ x = 3 (or) x = 1

The solution of the given equation is x = 1, 3.
