Pollination can occur in two ways:

Self pollination

Cross pollination.

1.When the pollen grains from the anther of a flower are transferred to the stigma of the same flower or another flower on the same plant it is called self pollination.

1.When the pollen grains from the anther of a flower on one plant are transferred to the stigma of a flower on another similar plant it is called cross pollination.

2. Self pollination can occur even in closed flower.

2. Cross pollination occurs when the flowers are open.

3. External agents are not required for this.

3. An external agent is required for carrying the pollens.

4. Highly useful characters are preserved by this.

4. Unable to preserve all the highly useful characters since they get diluted.
