An object of height 5 cm placed perpendicular to the principal axis of a concave lens of focal length 10 cm. H the distance of the object from the optical center is 20 cm. determine the position, nature and size of the image formed using the lens formula.

Given: Object height, h1 = +5 cm

Focal length, f1 = -10 cm


Object distance, u = -20 cm


Applying the lens formula:




Putting values





v= -6.67 cm


Now height of image can be calculated as follows:






Therefore, the image formed will be virtual, erect and diminished in size.
