Or

Write a character sketch of Mrs. Van Daan in 100-120 words.

Anne’s father is her idol and their relationship is a privileged one. Anne is of the opinion that she closely resembles her father in personality than do her mother and sister and hence is always involved in creating a good impression of her upon him. This is, however, contrary to her relationship with her mother which she feels is more distant in comparison with that of her sister Margot. She is very skeptical of her relationship with her mother and sister often resulting in a difference of opinions owing to misunderstandings. Anne agrees that the issues between her and her mother are the reason for her mother’s sufferings. Anne is specifically jealous of her sister Margot as she believes she gets special attention and privileges from her father. Anne also believes that Margot has good relations with her mother as well.

OR

According to Anne, Mrs Van Daan is a person of aggression, self-centered, unhelpful and instigates quarrels apart from being petty, egoistic and disagreeable. She often comments and complains on Anne’s family, much to the dislike of Anne. Mrs Van Daan is always engaged in quarreling with someone or the other, especially her Husband, as she gets irritated in an instant. Anne feels that Mrs Van Daan is very critical of her and believes that Anne was not raised in the correct manner. Mrs. Van Daan wants her son Peter to confide in her rather than Anne, whom he is very fond of. However, Anne finds Mrs. Van Daan more approachable than her own mother at times, owing to her neat and tidy persona.
