Rising Prices

Food is a basic necessity for both rich and poor alike. But the soaring prices of food articles is making it impossible for the poor to have a fulfilling meal. Not just the poor, the rising prices are affecting the average person alike. With 40 percent of our population stuck below poverty line, the high prices are invariably going to lead to a food crisis at a national level. The lower middle-class section of our society, with their minimal incomes are finding it extremely difficult to make both ends meet.

The rising prices are probably a result of lack of production this year. The shortage of rainfall in the country along with poor implementation of policies by the government are the likely causes for this.

The government therefore, has a sensitive issue that it needs to address immediately and take necessary steps to pull the common man out of this miserable state. Proper irrigation facilities must be provided immediately, along with reasonable subsidies to farmers. The minimum support price of agricultural produce must be increased to provide the necessary incentive for the farmers to sell their produce.
