The ‘Necklace’ reveals that vanity is an evil. It may bring joy for a short period but ultimately it leads to ruin. If you were placed in a situation similar to that of Matilda, what would you have done? Write your views.

The story of Matilda in the ‘Necklace’ is a classic example of what vanity can do to a person’s life. It only brings disappointment eventually. Although Matilda got to experience an exuberant time for the duration of the ball, she suffered for 10 years to pay her price for it. If I was places in a similar situation, I would choose to have a simple but fulfilled, happy life than a meagre few moments spent in luxury.
