Q2 of 23 Page 1

Attempt any four of the following subquestions:

Find the value of discriminant () for the quadratic equation: x2 + 7x + 6 = 0.

To find the discriminant, we first compare our equation with the standard form to get the values of a, b and c.

ax2 + bx + c = 0

We get,

a = 1, b = 7 , c = 6.

Discriminant = b2 - 4ac = 72 - 4×1×6 = 49 - 24 = 25
