Q13 of 48 Page 102

In what ratio does the point (3, 4) divide the line segment joining the points (1, 2) and (6, 7)?

Let the line segment joining (1, 2) and (6, 7) be divided by the point (3, 4) in the ratio λ : 1.

By internal division formula,

3 =

3λ +3 = 6λ + 1

⇒ 3λ = 2

⇒ λ =

∴ Required ratio is =2:3.
