If the sum of two numbers is 84 and their difference is 30, the numbers are:

Let the numbers are X and Y


According to the problem,


X + Y = 84 …. (1)


X – Y = 30 …..(2)


Now minus 2nd equation from 1st,


⇒ 2X =84 - 30


⇒ 2X = 54


⇒ X = 54/2


⇒ X = 27


Now put the value of X in the 1st equation,


⇒ X + Y = 84


⇒ 27 + Y = 84


⇒ Y = 84 – 27


⇒ Y = 57


∴ The value of X and Y are 27 and 57
