What are the basic assumptions of modernization ? Write any two.

Modernization is a global and irreversible process which originated in Europe. It has the beginning with the dual revolutions like industrial and democratic. But now the matter that concerns the whole world.

The assumptions of modernisation are:


1. In traditional or 3rd World countries, there are barriers of modernization. That means there is a dominance of personal attitudes, values, and role structures which can be described as ‘ascription’, ‘particularism’, and ‘functional diffuseness’.


2. In modern or Euro-Atlantic societies, there are aspects which are considered as part of modernity. It means there is a prevalence of secular, individualistic, and scientific values and roles.


3. Modernization is a more or less endogenous (internal) process in societies that are considered as wholes.


4. Modernization is the result of separation and rationalization.
