Rainwater harvesting is a method of gathering, accumulating and storing rainwater for different purposes.


There is a need to develop a rainwater harvesting system in India.


a. Rainwater harvesting should be developed to achieve the aims of sustainable development.


b. Rainwater harvesting is done to prevent acute water scarcity during the times of drought.


c. Rainwater harvesting is developed to increase underground water levels.


In India, rainwater harvesting is done by constructing guls and kuls, indundation channels, khadins and Johads, Tankas etc.,
