The French Revolutionaries created symbols and pictures to create a sense of collective identity among the French people.


The following are the measures taken by them.


a. A new French flag, tricolour replaced the Royal Standard.


b. They composed new hymns and martyrs commemorated all in the name of the nation.


c. The ideas of La Patrie (the fatherland) and Le Citoyen (the citizen) created a sense of a united community.


d. Uniform laws were made for all citizens and a centralised system of administration was introduced.


e. French was used as a spoken and written language.


Thus, the French Revolutionaries tried to unite all the French people by inculcating a sense of collective identity.

The following are the steps taken by the French to develop the ‘Mekong Delta Region’.


a. Many canals were built to drain lands in order to increase cultivation.


b. The vast irrigation system with the help of canals and other works increased the production of rice on a large scale.


c. The areas of rice cultivation went up to 2.2 million hectares.


d. Therefore, rice was exported to the international markets.


e. Vietnam became the third largest exporter of rice.


Thus, the Mekong Delta Region was developed by the efforts of the French.
