If any of us is asked to recall our fondest memories of our childhood days, none of us would come up with some particular doll or toy, but with some beautiful experience by the riverside, or in the garden or the farm. This is because even as children, our mind and soul is more in harmony with the breathe of nature than with any artificial pleasures.


Robert Lynd, in his prose “The Hum of Insects” has beautifully illustrated how children are extremely tied to nature. Their love for nature – the skies, birds, flowers and insects – is much more than their fondness for any toys or games. This is the reason that they love being outdoors as well. It is for the same reason that they imagine the entire world as a bigger garden, with a lot of warmth and happiness. The garden and the farm are indeed the best places to be and etch very clear marks on our memory as children.
