The Magic of Music

Good morning respected teachers and my fellow students present here today. I, Karuna Bajaj, am here to deliver a short speech on the topic, “The Magic of Music”.

As we turn the pages of our history books, we can date the history of music to the most lavish of royal courts and the most sacred of temples. There are not many art forms which have evaded so deep in culture as has music. It is indeed magical, because it has the power to both calm and evoke one’s senses, in a way nothing else can.

Is it the words? Is it the melody? Or is the coming together of both that counts for this magic? I believe the magic of music lies in the beautiful amalgamation of both words and melody – one that expresses ideas, and one that adds an emotion to the expression itself. No wonder, the richest of kings always had a musician in their court, and treated him with utmost respect.

Music is also considered magical because of its power to heal. It can heal a broken heart, a disturbed mind and is a great replacement for all kinds of drugs and cigarettes when one is overcome with depression. The kind of music we hear to determines our mood, at least in the short-term. If this isn’t magic, I don’t know what is.
