Find the value of x + y from the following equation:

Adding LHS matrices, we get




Now equating the corresponding elements, we get


2+y=5 and 2x+2=8


⇒ 2+y=5⇒ y=5-2⇒ y=3


⇒ 2x+2=8⇒ 2x⇒ 8-2⇒ 2x=6⇒ x=3


Hence the value of x+y=3+3=6.
