Explain the importance of rights in the life of citizen.

Rights are reasonable claims of persons over other fellow beings, over the society, and over the government recognised by society and sanctioned by law. Rights are guarantees which can be used when things go wrong. Mutual respect will not be there in the society if there is no rights. Rights are necessary for a citizen to speak and express his views, to choose his occupation, practice his own religion etc., Even moral claims will not be respected without rights.
