How can citizens exercise their right to hold rallies and demonstrations?

The citizens of India have the right to hold rallies and demonstrations on any issue. They have the right to gather, exchange ideas, mobilise funds or seek votes for a candidate or a party.

Similarly, the constitution has also specified certain ways to exercise this right.

a. The meetings should be peaceful.

b. These meetings should not lead to public disorder or disturb the peace of the society.

c. The participants of the meetings should not carry weapons with them.

The Government or the police have the authority to arrest and detain any person if he breaches the laws while exercising the right to hold rallies or demonstrations. However, there are also certain provisions for arresting also.
