Thanjavur also known as the rice bowl is a city in Tamil Nadu. This city is famous for paddy. The growth of paddy requires rich alluvial soil and adequate supply of water. Both these conditions are fulfilled in Thanjavur because of its strategic location in Cauvery Delta region. This region provides both alluvial soil and adequate water from the rivers. This region is supported by North-East monsoon with average rainfall of 37cm. Paddy from Thanjavur is exported to other countries also.
