Collect statistical data, where paddy is being cultivated at Thanjavur District, which is called the Nerkalanjium of Tamil Nadu.

Thanjavur district is called the Nerkalanjium which means ‘Thanjavur famous’. Thanjavur better known as the rice bowl of Tamil Nadu is famous for paddy cultivation from the time of Chola dynasty. It is located in the Cauvery Delta region which fulfils both conditions required for the successful growth of paddy i.e. adequate water and alluvial soil. This region gets around 37cm of rainfall from the North-East monsoon and the rivers in this region are also a source of water.
