Mention the role of statins in lowering blood cholesterol in humans.

Role of statins is the lowering the level of the VLDL (very low density lipids) and TG (triglyceride) levels in blood as well as increase the resorption of cholesterol thereby removing the layer plaques deposited on the walls of blood vessels. They do so by resembling mevalovate and competitively inhibiting beta-hydroxy-beta-methylglutaryl or HMG COA reductase.
