Q8 of 30 Page 1

What is detritus food chain made up of and how do they meet their energy and nutrient requirements?

Detritus food chain starts with dead organic matter and is made up of decomposers. Decomposers are heterotrophic organisms also called as Saprotrophs.

Saprotrophs consist of fungi and bacteria, they degrade the dead organic matter and break them down into simpler, inorganic materials and with this process of degradation they meet up with their energy requirements.
