Explain dairy farming and its features.

Dairy farming is a farming practice in which milch animals are reared at a large scale. It has the following features:

a. Dairy farming is the most advanced and efficient type of rearing of milch animals in the world.


b. It is both labour intensive and capital intensive.


c. Animal sheds, storage facilities for fodder, feeding and mulching machines add to the cost of dairy farming.


d. Special focus is laid on health care, cattle breeding, and veterinary services.


e. Labour is involved in taking care of the cattle, feeding it and in the milking process.


f. The products of dairy such as milk and other related products are perishable. They are utilized with a proper facility of transportation and refrigeration.


g. Nowadays, many methods of preservation are developed, such as transportation, refrigeration, pasteurization, etc which has led to large scale dairy farming.


h. The demand for dairy products is high in urban and industrial areas due to the high-income group of consumers.


i. The new methods of preservation have increased the duration of storage of dairy products.
