Describe the features of plantation agriculture.

a. Plantation agriculture was introduced by the Europeans in the colonies situated in tropics.


b. The French set up cocoa and coffee plantation in west Africa, Britishers set up tea gardens in India and Sri Lanka. They also set up rubber plantations in Malaysia and banana plantations in West Indies.


c. It requires a large estate of plantation along with a huge investment and a good managerial system.


d. It also requires the development of scientific and technical methods of cultivation.


e. It requires single crop specialization, cheap and skilled labour and a good system of transportation connecting the plantation to factories and vice versa.


f. The different plantation crops are tea, coffee, rubber, cotton, banana, and sugarcane.
