Q13 of 97 Page 772

The base of a right-angled triangle measures 48 cm and its hypotenuse measures 50 cm. Find the area of the triangle.

Given: Base = 48 cm

Hypotenuse = 50 cm

We know that,

Base2 + Perpendicular2 = Hypotenuse2

⇒ 482 + Perpendicular2 = 502

⇒ Perpendicular2 = 502 - 482

⇒ Perpendicular2 = 2500– 2304

⇒ Perpendicular2 = 196 cm2

⇒ Perpendicular = 14 cm

Area of a triangle = 1/2 × Base × Height

= 1/2 × 48 cm × 14 cm

= 336 cm2
