How did Helen pass her time when she was not reading?

Helen had her share of interests and amusements. She was no book worm who read and only read. When Helen was not reading, her amusements were like other ordinary women her age. She enjoyed the country side. Often she went swimming, canoeing, sailing and cycling. She admired nature and spent time strolling in the woods. Her favourite pastime was sailing. In the summer of 1901, in Nova Scotia, Helen had a frightful experience in the ocean. Her boat was caught in a storm and it was the captain who skilfully averted the boat from a mishap. She enjoyed spending time with her ‘tree friends’. Helen’s closeness to trees made her believe that she could almost hear the sap flow and see the sunshine on the leaf’s surface. Similarly, the animal lover, Helen had dog friends too. During rains, she played indoor games like knit crochet, chess or solitaire. Her zest for life is evident from the fact that she enjoyed visiting museums and theatres. Helen interacted with actors and actresses. She had a fine taste for good things in life.
