In what ratio does the point divide the line segment joining the points P(2, -2) and Q(3, 7)? Also find the value of y.

Given points :


P(2, -2) Q(3, 7) and


Let A divides line segment joining the coordinates P and Q in k : 1


And using the section formula,


i.e. the coordinates of point A(x, y) dividing a line segment joining two points (x1, y1) and (x2, y2) in m : n is



So, using the given values in the above formula, we get

⇒ 24k + 24 = 33k + 22


⇒ 9k = 2



And using this, we get



Therefore, A divides PQ in k : 1 i.e. 2 : 9.
