What are HYV seeds? Write one merit and one demerit.

HYV seeds refer to the High Yield Varieties of seeds. These seeds were introduced during the Green Revolution in the late 1960s. These seeds were given to increase productivity.


The merit of usage of HYV seeds is said to be the production of larger amounts of grain from a single plant.


The necessity for chemical fertilizers and pesticides and also the requirement of more water for irrigation are the demerits of HYV seeds.
