Modern farming methods require the farmer to start with more cash than before. Why?

Modern farming methods are the use of improved methods and techniques in the production of crops to increase yield per hectare. It includes the use of HYV seeds, insecticides, pesticides, electric tube-well etc. They require more cash than traditional methods because HVY seeds need more water and water is drawn from electric-tubewell which consumes electricity and incurs the cost which was not present in traditional methods. Also, chemical fertilizers and pesticides were used to produce the best results in the production. They are high in cost, and there was not any cost dedicated to fertilizers earlier. Higher use of chemicals, cause environmental degradation also.
