From where do farmers obtain the inputs that they require?

Farmers need many inputs in the production of crops. Some of them are:

• Seeds: Seeds are bought from retail shops which sell various kinds of seeds for one type of crop. They select those seeds for their use which are cost efficient as well as has better quality.

• Fertilizer: Fertilizers are either bought directly from wholesalers or retailers of fertilizers.

• Capital: Small farmers used to take loans from moneylenders or traders in Palampur whereas large farmers had surplus money from farming which can be used as capital. Nowadays farmers also take bank loans.

• Equipment and machinery: Other equipment and machinery can be bought from manufacturing units or shops in the markets of cities.
