Q28 of 55 Page 2

Explain any five efforts which can be made to increase non-farming production activities in villages.

Today we cannot be dependent only on farming activities for earning the livelihood. We have to shift to non-farming activities too for the development of village and country. Non-farming activities in Palampur include small-scale manufacturing units, transportation services like bullocks, rickshaw from village to towns and cities, transportation of milk from village to cities, small trading shops. The following efforts can be made to increase them:

• Every non-farming activity will need some capital. Providing loans at low rate of interest from banks can minimize this constraint.

• Campaigns to encourage people to establish small-scale industries can benefit the development of villages.

• Small-scale industries will require raw materials from various places. Enhancing transportation system and providing good transportation facilities at low cost will increase the non-farming activities.

• Availability of good quality labour or skilled labour which could be a requirement of industries can be made by investing in education and health of the people.

• The government should start capacity building programs to educate people to shift towards non-farming activities which can enhance their income.
