Q20 of 24 Page 213

The sides of a rectangle are 20cm and 15cm. If each side of the rectangle is increased by 20% find the percentage increase in the area?

Given

Length of Rectangle = 20cm

Breadth of Rectangle = 15cm

The Area of rectangle will be

Length x Breadth = 20 x 15 = 300cm2

Side of Rectangle are increased by 20%

The length of Rectangle becomes = 20 + 4 = 24cm

The Breadth of Rectangle becomes = 15 + 3 = 18 cm

The Area of rectangle will be

Length x Breadth = 24 x 18 = 432cm2

Increase in Area = Final Area – Initial Area

= 432 – 300

= 132cm2

The Area of Rectangle is increased by 44%.
