The tribal population was greatly dependent on gathering and hunting for their subsistence.


1. People in extreme cold and extreme hot regions survived on hunting whereas people in coastal areas survived on fishing.


2. People who gathered edible plants from the forests regions also collected medicinal herbs, barks etc., and sold it in the nearby markets.


3. The collected leaves are used for beverages, drugs, cosmetics, fabrics etc.,


4. The barks are used for making tannin, quinine etc.,


5. They also collected nuts and their oils.


6. Gums and resins are used as raw materials in various industries.


Hence, it can be said the primitive economic activities of the tribals are gathering and hunting.
