“The decadal and annual growth rates of population in India are both very high and steadily increasing over time.” Substantiate the statement.

The population of India is increasing. India ranks second in the population of the world.


1. The growth of population was steady in the thirty-year span between 1921 to 1951.


2. But during the next thirty years between 1951 to 1981, there was a dramatic increase in population. This kind of growth in population is called a population explosion.


3. This rapid increase is due to high birth rate when compared to the death rate.


4. During this period, the annual growth rate was very high. This period witnessed huge improvements in the standard of living of the people and other developmental activities.


5. And, survey after 1981 shows a slight decline in population growth but the annual growth rate is high.


Hence, it can be said that the decadal and annual growth rates of the population in India are both very high and steadily increasing over time.
