Baculoviruses are good example of biocontrol agents. Justify giving three reasons.

Baculoviruses are pathogens, they belong to genus Nucleopolyhedrovirus. The majority of baculoviruses are used as biological control agents due to the following reason:

(i) As these viruses are excellent candidates for species-specific, narrow spectrum insecticidal applications.

(ii) They have been shown to have no negative impacts on plants, mammals, birds, and fish or even on non-target insects. Hence they are used in organic farming too.

(iii) This is especially desirable when beneficial insects are being conserved to aid in overall integrated pest management (IPM) programme, or when an ecologically sensitive area is being treated.

(iv) They kill the insects and arthropods.
