i) If electrostatic precipitator of a thermal power plant fails to function then a large quantity of particulate matter would be released into the environment. It would then decrease the air quality and hence affect the health of the population.

ii) Methods to control vehicular air pollution are:-


a) Use of CNG instead of diesel and petrol.


b) Phasing out old vehicles.


c) Use of catalytic converters in vehicles.


d) Use of stringent pollution control norms.
