Q2 of 102 Page 127

Write in proper sequence the names of all the parts of the human eye through which the light rays coming from an object pass before they form an image on the retina.

I. Conjunctiva

Explanation: It is the protective, transparent outer layer that covers the colored part of the eye.

II. Cornea

Explanation: Light rays enter the cornea or clear front window of the eye. The cornea’s refractive power bends the light rays such that they pass freely through the pupil the opening in the center of the iris through which light enters the eye.

III. Aqueous Humour

Explanation: It helps in moistening the surface of the lens and protects it from physical shock. It refracts the light rays passing through it.

IV. Iris

Explanation: The iris works like a shutter as it has the ability to enlarge and shrink, depending on how much light is to enter the eye via the pupil size.

*Note: Pupil is the colored circular opening between the iris of the eyes.

V. Lens

Explanation: The light rays pass through the eye’s natural crystalline lens. This clear, flexible structure helps by shortening and lengthening its width in order to focus light rays properly.

VI. Vitreous Humour

Explanation: Light rays then pass through a dense, transparent gel-like substance, called the vitreous that fills the globe of the eyeball and keeps the shape of the eyeballs.

In a normal eye, the light rays come to a sharp focusing point on the surface of the retina.
