What is meant by biological magnification?

Due to use of pesticides to protect the crop, they enter the food chain. These pesticides are either washed down into the soil or in water-bodies. The level of accumulation of these pesticides in food chain increases at each higher trophic level and this process is termed as ‘Biological Magnification.’
