A. The following desirable characters a farmer should look for his sugarcane crop:


•High yielding


•Thick stem for storing more sugar


•Ability to grow in their areas


B. With the help of plant breeding, the sugarcane species Saccharum barberi from North India and Saccharum officinarum species from South India were crossed to obtain sugarcane varieties having desirable qualities. So that a hybrid variety with desired characters could be grown in North India.
