RAGGING IS AN UNDESIARABLE PRACTICE

Ragging is an abominable torture on the human body. It is an illegal, impermissible intrusion on body that is made to accept the process without protesting against it. Ragging, as a process, is the outcome of a decayed and insensitive and underdeveloped psyche of a person that tries to hamper the independence of an individual. It is dominance on a human mind and body that has been ripped bare of its right to retort with the device of some unknown punishment. The notion of the colonizer and the subaltern works in a subtle fashion where the person imposing his command on the subjugated doesn’t take heed other’s personal consequences.

However, ragging can affect an individual in various ways. It is often verbal as in the form of verbal abuse or harsh verbal projection of one’s flaws or negativities. Verbal abuse goes on affect the mental health of the abused by making him go over those words. The victim is often made to convince of his inconsistencies and flaws rather than giving him space to channelize them into something worthwhile. Physical abuse corrupts the body as well the psyche of the victim. The external turmoil seeps through the skin and lodges itself into the mind of the individual with unimaginable repercussions. The victim is often rendered brutal or submissive for a considerably long period of time. The unacceptability of the humiliation makes one seek for occasion to avenge on his violator. Thus, this abnormality surging within the person makes drives him mad, often requiring the aid of rehabilitation centers.

Quite often, we shall find ragging in the form financial extorts that often leads one to get indulged in stealing and bankrupting. The moral grounds of the person are shattered and turn him into a rebel against the very normal notions of life. Ragging undermines human dignity by making the person crawl at the oppressor’s feet. It makes the person feel like a captured soul without any space. Gradually or not, it calls in depression in the person by making him corner himself into isolation. Such actions as these are unpardonable and the government should arm themselves up with strict actions against such acts. Students involved in ragging should be admitted in counseling sessions for the treatment of their corrupted psyche. If not, they should be debarred and if required, should be expelled from the institution.
