What was the significance of ‘Operation Iraqi Freedom’ ?

in 2003 US launched its invasion of Iraq under the codename ‘operation Iraqi’.

Many nations too joined this operation. the main aim of the operation was to prevent Iraq from developing weapons of mass destruction(WMD)

But even after the invasion no evidence of WMD found in Iraq, it is assumed that the motives behind the invasion was not to curb WMD but control the oilfields and install a regime friendly to the US.

The significance of the invasion was that it led to the fall off of the saddam hussain’s regime as well as showcase the political and military failure of US, as the casualties bore by both the nations were very high.
