Q2 of 23 Page 1

Attempt of the following sub questions:

Form the quadratic equation if the roots are 3 and 8.

Given: α = 3 and β = 8

Quadratic equation when roots are given is x2 – (α + β)x + αβ = 0

α + β = 3 + 8 = 11

αβ = 3 × 8 = 24

therefore, quadratic equation is x2 – 11x + 24 = 0

hint:

since 3 and 8 are roots which means they are factors of the quadratic equation therefore we can write

(x – 3) × (x – 8) = 0

x2 – 8x – 3x + 24 = 0

x2 – 11x + 24 = 0
