Let us solve the following simultaneous equations in two variables by the method of substitution.


7x – 5y = 2

Given … (1)


And 7x – 5y = 2 … (2)


Expressing x of equation (1) in terms of y,



… (3)


Substituting (3) in (2),


⇒ 7x – 5y = 2






∴ y = 8


Substituting y value in (3),




∴ x = 6


∴ By solving, we get x = 6 and y = 8.
