How did the Sino – Indian conflict of 1962 affect the Communist Party of India?

Several measures have been employed to normalize the Indo-Pak relations. For example,

a) CULTURAL EXCHANGES between the two countries should be encouraged. This will promote a sense of shared past and identity and will help to strengthen ties between the citizens of the countries.

b) ECONOMIC COOPERATION should be the top priority of the governments, as both countries can benefit from free and open trade in the region.

The Sino-Indian relations and the emerging conflicts between USSR and China, severely affected the Communist Party of India.

a) There was a RIFT in the party, where the pro-USSR members of the party were heavily bent in favour of closer relations with Congress. The other members were seen as being closer to China and did not wish to ally with Congress

b) Consequently, the party split into CPI (pro-USSR) and CPI-M (pro-China) in 1964. CPI-M was projected as anti-nationals during the 1962 war, and many of their leaders were arrested for pro-China bias.
