(a) The stagnation in agricultural development in India during the British colonial rule was permanently broken by the green revolution (when there was a large increase in production of food grains) .

This was due to use of high yielding variety (HYV) seeds especially for wheat and rice, use of fertiliser and pesticide in the correct quantities as well as regular supply of water.


(b) The scientist whose contribution led to development of semi-dwarf wheat varieties in India is M. S. Swaminathan.
